इस सूत्र में कहा गया है कि जैसे बीज के अंकुरण की रक्षा काँटेदार शाखाओं से की जाती है, वैसे ही तत्त्व के निर्णायक बोध (तत्त्वाध्यवसाय) की रक्षा जल्प और वितण्डा (वाद-विवाद और वितण्डा) के माध्यम से होती है। अर्थात्, कभी-कभी तर्क-वितर्क और विरोध भी सत्य के ज्ञान की रक्षा के लिए आवश्यक होते हैं, जैसे काँटे बीज की रक्षा करते हैं।

This sūtra explains that just as the sprouting of a seed is protected by being covered with thorny branches, so too the decisive cognition of reality is preserved through disputation and wrangling. In other words, debates and even opposition sometimes serve to safeguard the knowledge of truth, much like thorns protect a seedling.
