Commentary (टीका)

This verse elucidates the state of a mahātmā, a great soul who has realized the ultimate truth or samsiddha-tattva. Such an individual transcends conventional limitations like time (kāla), place (deśa), posture (āsana), and direction (dik). The sloka highlights that for such a realized being, typical disciplinary practices or external forms (niyama) do not apply because their awareness (sva-vedana) is rooted in the essence of the self. This emphasis on innate self-awareness bypasses traditional prerequisites and practices established for spiritual progress, underlining the existential freedom that comes with enlightenment.
