Commentary (टीका)

This verse urges the spiritual aspirant to negate the false identification with the individual soul ('jīva') and affirm the identification with the Supreme Reality ('brahma'). The process involves the removal of self-superimpositions ('svā-dhyāsa') that arise due to past latent tendencies ('vāsanā'). The aspirant must assert their identity as not the limited self but the infinite Brahman, thereby facilitating the dissolution of ignorance and realization of true self-nature. The practice of 'atad-vyāvṛtti' or negation of what is not the Self is pivotal in this journey towards Self-realization, according to Vedantic philosophy.
