Translation (अनुवाद)
The existence of the illusory snake remains as long as the delusion persists; upon the removal of delusion, the snake ceases to exist, just as it is with ignorance-born misconceptions.

Commentary (टीका)
This verse illustrates the transient nature of illusion and ignorance through a classic Vedantic metaphor — the snake and the rope. *Bhrānti* (delusion) and *mithyājñāna* (false knowledge) occur due to *pramāda* (negligence), making one mistake a rope for a snake. As long as the delusion persists, the illusion of the snake exists. However, once the delusion is dispelled, one realizes the true nature of the rope, rendering the snake non-existent. This serves as an analogy to how ignorance can lead to misconceptions in life, and clarity or enlightenment eradicates the false manifestations.
