Just as in dreams the mind creates a world out of nothing with its power, so too in the waking state; all of this is merely an expansion of the mind.

Commentary (टीका)

This verse highlights the illusory nature of both the waking and dream states as seen in Vedantic philosophy. The manas (mind) is the creator of experiences in both states, forming the viśva (universe) out of its own potential. The emphasis here is on the non-dual understanding that all perceived reality is merely an expansion or manifestation (vijṛmbhaṇa) of the mind. This underscores the notion that the objective world lacks inherent reality and is akin to perceptions in a dream. Hence, realization of this truth is key to overcoming the illusory differences one perceives in daily life, directing attention to the unchanging consciousness that is the substratum of both the waking and dream states.
