Thus, knowing that which is superior to the intellect, restrain the self with the Self, O mighty-armed, and slay the enemy in the form of desire, which is difficult to conquer.

This act of restraining is essential because desires, symbolized as enemies, are relentless and challenging to overcome without understanding their true nature. 

Both commentaries emphasize the difficulty yet necessity of subduing desires, which bring distractions and lead individuals away from true knowledge and self-realization. The metaphor of the warrior (''mahā-bāhu'' महाबाहु) is used to inspire courage in confronting one's inner weaknesses. The concept that desires reside within the domain of the temporal and illusory body, sometimes mistaken as essential needs, underscores the scriptural warning that without recognizing and transcending this misidentification, conquering desires remains formidable.

The ''bhāgavad-gītā'' suggests persistence in spiritual disciplines such as **sādhana**, prayer, and **japa**, in seeking a balance of the ''Sattva'' **guna** over the disruptive influence of ''Rajas'' to facilitate overcoming desires.
