यह सूत्र बताता है कि जो अर्थ या विषय मुख्य चर्चा के विषय से असंबद्ध है, वह एक भिन्न अर्थ (अर्थान्तर) कहलाता है। अर्थात्, यदि कोई अर्थ उस प्रकृत (मुख्य) अर्थ से जुड़ा नहीं है, तो वह अलग अर्थ माना जाएगा।

This sūtra states that a meaning or subject which is unconnected to the principal subject under discussion is considered a different meaning (arthāntara). In other words, if a meaning is not related to the main topic, it is regarded as a separate or distinct meaning.
