कारणान्तरादपि तद्धर्मोपपत्तेप्रतिषेधः

यदि किसी गुण या धर्म की उत्पत्ति किसी अन्य कारण से भी संभव है, तो उस गुण के लिए पूर्व में बताए गए कारण का निषेध किया जाता है। अर्थात, जब किसी धर्म की उत्पत्ति के लिए अन्य कारण की संभावना हो, तो पूर्व कारण का निषेध किया जाता है।

If the manifestation of a property is possible due to another cause, then the previously proposed cause is negated. In other words, when the possibility of a property arises from another cause, the earlier cause is denied or rejected.
