यह सूत्र बताता है कि गंध, नमी, पकना, संघटन, स्थान और प्रदान – ये सभी गुण या कार्य पंचभौतिक पदार्थ से उत्पन्न होते हैं। अर्थात्, जिन वस्तुओं में ये सभी गुण या क्रियाएँ पाई जाती हैं, वे पाँच महाभूतों से बनी होती हैं। पंचभौतिक पदार्थ की पहचान इन्हीं विशेषताओं से होती है।

This sūtra states that smell, moisture, maturation, aggregation, space, and bestowal are all properties or functions arising from substances composed of the five great elements. In other words, entities that possess these characteristics are constituted by the five elements. The identification of a five-elemental entity is thus based on the presence of these features.
