नः स्मृतेः स्मर्त्तव्यविषयत्वात्

यह सूत्र बताता है कि स्मृति उस विषय के कारण उत्पन्न होती है जो स्मरण के योग्य है। ज्ञाता के लिए स्मृति तभी संभव है जब कोई विषय स्मरणीय हो। अर्थात्, स्मृति का उद्भव स्मर्त्तव्य विषय के कारण होता है।

This sūtra explains that memory arises because of the status of being the object of remembrance. For the knower, memory is possible only when there is something that is to be remembered. Thus, the origin of memory is due to the object being worthy of remembrance.
