इस सूत्र में कहा गया है कि जाति (सामान्य) और विशेष (भिन्नता) के संबंध में कोई अनिवार्य या निश्चित संबंध नहीं है। अर्थात, किसी विशेष में जाति का होना आवश्यक नहीं है, और न ही प्रत्येक जाति में विशेष का होना अनिवार्य है। यहाँ अनियम का तात्पर्य है कि दोनों के बीच कोई अपरिहार्य संबंध नहीं है।

This sūtra states that there is no necessary or fixed relation between universal (class) and particularity (distinction). That is, the presence of a universal in a particular is not inevitable, nor is the presence of particularity in every universal necessary. Here, "absence of necessity" means that there is no unavoidable connection between the two.
