तत् त्रिविधं वाक्छलं सामान्यच्छलमुपचारच्छलञ्चेति

इस सूत्र में कहा गया है कि वाक्छल (वाणी में छल) तीन प्रकार का होता है—सामान्य छल, उपचार छल और एक अन्य (तीसरा) प्रकार। इसका तात्पर्य यह है कि वाद-विवाद में शब्दों का अनुचित या भ्रामक प्रयोग तीन भेदों में विभाजित किया गया है, जिनमें सामान्य अर्थ में छल और रूपक या अनुपयुक्त अर्थ का छल सम्मिलित हैं।
