Commentary (टीका)

This sloka speaks to the nature of the self as described in Advaita Vedanta. According to Advaita, the concepts of bondage and liberation are mere creations of māyā, or illusion. The self (ātman) is inherently free from these constructs because it is niṣkala (partless), niṣkriya (actionless), śānta (peaceful), niravadya (faultless), and nirañjana (stainless). It is advitīya (non-dual) and para (supreme), not subject to the illusions of duality and multiplicity. The metaphor of space (vyomavat) is used to emphasize the vastness and untouched quality of the self, where such imaginary constructs (like bondage and liberation) have no foundation. Thus, in the Non-dualistic view, the ultimate truth is beyond all conceptualization or dualistic thinking.
