Translation (अनुवाद)

In discussing bondage and liberation, there is no covering of Brahman due to absence of another; should there be, the loss of non-duality would occur, which the scripture does not accept.

Commentary (टीका)

This verse explores the Vedantic concept of non-duality (advaita) by asserting that Brahman, which is ultimate reality, cannot have any covering or limitation because that would imply duality. The śruti, or scriptural text, does not support the existence of duality. If there were any obscuration or distinction, it would imply separation, thus compromising the core principle of non-duality fundamental to Vedanta. In the discourse about bondage and liberation, this idea solidifies that the essential nature of Brahman remains untouched by any form of dualism, thereby emphasizing its ever-existent and ever-liberated status.
