Commentary (टीका)

In this sloka, the emphasis is on the necessity of the self for liberation from the bonds of *avidyā* (ignorance), *kāma* (desire), and *karma* (action). It suggests that without self-realization, true liberation is unattainable, even over countless eons. The depiction underscores the importance of inner awakening in the path to emancipation, illustrating that external efforts, regardless of their duration, are insufficient without inner understanding and transformation. The term *kalpa-koṭi-śataiḥ* metaphorically expresses the idea that mundane time has no true bearing without the realization of the self.
