Sloka (श्लोक)

तूष्णीमवस्था परमोपशान्तिः
बुद्धेरसत्कल्पविकल्पहेतोः ।
ब्रह्मात्मन ब्रह्मविदो महात्मनो
यत्राद्वयानन्दसुखं निरन्तरम् ॥ ५२६ ॥

तूष्णीम्-अवस्था परम-उपशान्तिः बुद्धेः-असत्-कल्प-विकल्प-हेतोः ब्रह्म-आत्मनि ब्रह्म-वितः महात्मनः यत्र-अद्वय-आनन्द-सुखम् निरन्तरम्

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

tūṣṇīm-avasthā paramopaśāntiḥ buddher-asatkalpa-vikalpa-hetoḥ | brahmātmani brahmavido mahātmanaḥ yatrādvayānanda-sukhaṁ nirantaram || 526 ||

Translation (अनुवाद)

To the enlightened soul, the state of silence is supreme tranquility, where, in the self realized as Brahman, non-dual bliss is experienced continuously.

Commentary (टीका)

This verse beautifully captures the essence of the state termed as *tūṣṇīm-avasthā*, or silence. For one who is a *brahmavid* (knower of Brahman), the mind transcends the *asatkalpa-vikalpa* (imaginations and dualities) which are normally the cause of disturbance. Instead, the mind achieves *parama-upaśāntiḥ* (supreme tranquility). Such a state provides endless *advaya-ānanda* (non-dual bliss) within the *brahmātman* (Self as Brahman), revealing the profound pinnacle of spiritual realization. This highlights the importance of silence and mental stillness to truly experience continuous bliss.
