Commentary (टीका)

This verse draws a nuanced parallel between the role of the 'sākṣi' (witness) and a lamp in a house. Just as a lamp remains unaffected by the events within the house, the true witnessing self is described as 'avikāra' (unchanging) and 'udāsīna' (indifferent). These attributes symbolize the nature of true self-awareness that remains untouched by the phenomena it observes. The verse emphasizes the idea of non-attachment and the distinct nature of the witness, inviting one to realize their inner self that is steady and unaffected by external changes.
