Sloka (श्लोक)

अतीताननुसन्धानं भविष्यदविचारणम् ।
अउदासीन्यमपि प्राप्तं जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम् ॥ ४३२ ॥

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

atīta-anusandhānam bhaviṣyat-avicāraṇam | audāsīnyam api prāptam jīvanmuktasya lakṣaṇam || 432 ||

Translation (अनुवाद)

The characteristics of a living liberated soul include indifference to past inquiries, non-concern for the future, and equanimity towards the present.

Commentary (टीका)

In this profound verse, the essence of a *jīvanmukta*, or a living liberated soul, is encapsulated. The *jīvanmukta* is one who has transcended the dualities of time by being unattached to the past, undisturbed by the uncertainties of the future, and maintaining equipoise in the present. This state of detachment and equanimity is not due to ignorance but arises from a deep understanding and realization of the impermanent nature of phenomenal existence. The *jīvanmukta* remains unaffected by worldly changes, embodying *audāsīnya* or indifference as a result of their inherent peace and liberation.
