Commentary (टीका)

This sloka delineates a spiritual progression that begins with *vairāgya* (detachment), leading to *bodha* (awakening or enlightenment), followed by *uparati* (withdrawal from external desires), culminating in the experience of *svānanda* (self-bliss). Ultimately, this journey results in *śānti* (peace). The verse beautifully portrays the fruits of spiritual practices and the inner transformations towards ultimate tranquility, emphasizing the step-by-step process of achieving final peace through intermediary stages of spiritual evolution. Each stage builds upon the previous, implying that higher realizations are predicated on the foundational virtues like detachment.
