चित्तमूलो विकल्पोऽयं चित्ताभावे न कश्चन । अतश्चित्तं समाधेहि प्रत्यग्रूपे परात्मनि ॥ ४07 ॥

citta-mūlo vikalpo'yaṁ citta-abhāve na kaścana | ataś cittaṁ samādhehi pratyagrūpe parātmani || 407 ||
Translation (अनुवाद)
This diversity arises from the mind; without the mind, nothing exists. Therefore, fix the mind on the Supreme Self within.

Commentary (टीका)
This verse from Vedantic philosophy highlights the central role of the mind in creating the perception of diversity. The mind is portrayed as the root cause of all dualistic differentiation or 'vikalpa'. Without the mind's activities, such diversity ceases to exist, implying that the ultimate nature of reality is non-dual. Therefore, it is advised that one should 'samādhehi', i.e., fix or stabilize the mind in its true state by realizing the 'pratyagrūpa' or innate form of the 'parātman', the Supreme Self. This realization leads to the dissolution of mental constructs and the attainment of profound unity with the Self, indicative of spiritual liberation. Such teachings measure the importance of meditation and introspective fixation on the true self, free from the fluctuations and fabrications of a restless mind.
