Commentary (टीका)

This sloka from the scripture describes the transformational power of association for a yogi. The verse emphasizes that the nature or state of the yogi is influenced by the adjuncts through which he operates—such as the body (deha), life force (prāṇa), senses (indriya), mind (manaḥ), and intellect (buddhi). The upādhis (adjuncts) through which the yogi conducts activities shape his being. The underlying philosophical insight is that one's environment and interactions shape their inner state. This encourages practitioners to be mindful of their vṛttis (activities) and samāyoga (associations) to cultivate an aspirational state of being.
