Commentary (टीका)

This verse expounds upon the nature of the parātmā or the Supreme Self in Vedantic philosophy. The sloka highlights several key attributes of the paramātman: it is nitya (eternal), advaya (non-dual), and akhaṇḍa (indivisible), indicating the unity and continuity of consciousness, cit. The parātmā is described as the sākṣī or witness of the buddhi and other faculties, suggesting its transcendence beyond the limited faculties of mind and senses. It transcends both sat (existence) and asat (non-existence), illustrating its unique position beyond the duality of manifested creation. Being pratyak-sadānanda-ghaṇaḥ, it is dense with inner bliss, accessible only through the deeper realization indicated by the word 'I' (aham). This verse serves as a reminder of the Supreme Truth that underlies human identity and consciousness, pointing seekers towards self-realization and liberation.
