Commentary (टीका)
This verse emphasizes the peril of negligence (*pramāda*), equating it to a form of death more severe than any physical demise. For the aspirant on the path of spiritual knowledge, especially those who are vivekinaḥ (discerning) and brahmavidaḥ (knowers of Brahman), negligence is a significant barrier to achieving spiritual success or siddhi. In the state of samādhi (deep meditation), such individuals can attain complete success if they remain samāhitaḥ (composed) and sāvadhānaḥ (cautious). The verse acts as a reminder to remain vigilant and avoid carelessness on the spiritual journey, highlighting the transformative power of mindfulness and attentive practice.
