Sloka (श्लोक)

अतोऽभिमानं त्यज मांसपिण्डे
पिण्डाभिमानिन्यपि बुद्धिकल्पिते ।
कालत्रयाबाध्यमखण्डबोधं
ज्ञात्वा स्वमात्मानमुपैहि शान्तिम् ॥ २९६ ॥

पिण्ड-अभिमानिनि अपि बुद्धि-कल्पिते ।
कालत्रय-अबाध्यम् अखण्ड-बोधम्
ज्ञात्वा स्वम् आत्मानम् उपैहि शान्तिम् ॥

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

ato'bhimānaṁ tyaja māṁsa-piṇḍe
piṇḍābhimāninyapi buddhi-kalpite ।
kālatrayābādhyam-akhaṇḍa-bodham
jñātvā svam-ātmānam-upaihi śāntim || 296 ||

Translation (अनुवाद)

Abandon the identification with the body, which is a mental construct; realizing the self as unaffected by the threefold time and possessing unbroken awareness, attain peace.

Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the focus is placed on the concept of abhimāna, or identification with the flesh-bound body, which is derived from the constructs of the mind. The jīva (individual soul) must confront and discard this illusory identification to access the ātman (true self), which remains untouched by the past, present, and future—referred to here as kalatraya. The realization of one's true nature as akhaṇḍa-bodham, or unbroken awareness, is presented as paramount in attaining śānti, or peace. This aligns with the Vedantic idea of transcending bodily identification to achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation.
