Sloka (श्लोक)

यत्सत्यभूतं निजरूपमाद्यं
चिदद्वयानन्दमरूपमक्रियम् ।
तदेत्य मिथ्यावपुरुत्सृजेत
शैलूषवद्वेषमुपात्तमात्मनः ॥ २९२ ॥

यत् सत्यभूतं निजरूपम् आद्यं
चित्-अद्वय-आनन्दम् अरूपम् अक्रियम्
तत् एत्य मिथ्या-वपुः उत्सृजेत
शैलूषवत् वेशम् उपात्तम् आत्मनः ॥ २९२ ॥

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

yat satyabhūtaṁ nijarūpam ādyaṁ
cid-advaya-ānandam arūpam akriyam
tad etya mithyā-vapuḥ utsṛjet
śailūṣavad veṣam upāttam ātmanaḥ || 292 ||

Translation (अनुवाद)

One should attain the true, primordial, non-dual blissful self, devoid of form and action, and discard the false identity assumed, like an actor shedding a costume.

Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the individual's quest for true self-realization is likened to an actor removing a costume. The ātmā, or true self, is described as the primordial, non-dual consciousness that is blissful and devoid of form and action. The verse encourages discarding the false identity one assumes in the temporal world, highlighting the transient nature of worldly appearances. By employing the metaphor of an actor (śailūṣa), it alludes to the impermanent roles we adopt in life. Realization of the nijarūpa or one's true form is the goal, leading to liberation from illusions (mithyā) of duality and engaging the eternal bliss (ānanda) inherent in realizing one's true nature.
