Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the focus is on internal reflection, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness over external distractions. Nidrā (sleep), lokavārtā (worldly news), and śabdādeḥ (sounds) are distractions that cause vismṛti (forgetfulness) of the higher self. The sloka advises to refrain from giving undue time to these distractions. Instead, one should engage in ātma-cintana, a meditative practice where the individual delves into the essence of their true self, seeking to transcend worldly attachments and cultivate inner understanding.
