Commentary (टीका)
This verse uses a powerful metaphor to illustrate the hindrance of desires in the path of liberation. The worldly existence is likened to a prison, and the desires ('vāsanā') are described as iron chains. This imagery signifies how deeply rooted desires can bind an individual to the material world. Only by overcoming these desires can one achieve true liberation or 'mokṣa'. The text emphasizes the role of 'taj-jñāḥ' or the learned, who understand and articulate the importance of detachment (vairāgya) to break free from this binding. Thus, it underscores the spiritual significance of transcending worldly cravings for achieving a liberated state.
