Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the nature of reality and illusion is explored. The sloka asserts that what is perceived as diverse through bhrānti (illusion) is not separate from its essence in the state of viveka (discernment). This is analogous to the dream state, where the entire svapna-viśva (dream world)—though elaborate and convincing while dreaming—disappears upon prabodha (awakening) and is recognized as non-separate from the self. The sloka suggests that just as the dream world is not real upon awakening, our perceived reality is not different from its true essence when seen through clear discernment. This calls for a deeper understanding of our perceptions and the transient nature of the experienced world, emphasizing the Vedantic concept that the ultimate reality is singular and unified, despite the illusion of multiplicity.
