Commentary (टीका)
This verse elucidates the concept of ultimate reality as depicted in Vedantic philosophy. The sloka describes a 'jyotiḥ' or light, symbolizing the self-luminous consciousness that transcends the duality and distinctions generated by 'māyā', or illusion. It is emphasized as 'nirasta-māyā-kṛta-sarva-bhedam', highlighting its nature as free from all created distinctions. Further, being 'nitya' or eternal, 'sukha' or blissful, 'niṣkala' or indivisible, and 'aprameya' or immeasurable, this state of being is beyond descriptive attributes, reaffirmed by terms like 'arūpa' (formless), 'avyakta' (unmanifest), 'anākhyam' (indescribable), and 'avyayam' (immutable). The phrase 'jyotiḥ svayaṁ cakāsti' implies that this light is self-revealing, requiring neither external aid nor description to manifest its inherent brilliance and truth. This self-luminous consciousness leads to a state of being that is untouched by illusion and remains an eternal truth in the universe.
