Commentary (टीका)

This verse portrays the Advaita Vedantic principle of *adhyāsa* or superimposition, where the deluded mind perceives duality in the non-dual reality of Brahman. Similar to mistaking mother-of-pearl for silver, individuals project illusory attributes onto Brahman, due to ignorance (avidyā). True understanding dissolves these projections, revealing the substratum – *brahman* – which is eternal and unchanging. This metaphor of delusion emphasizes that names and forms are transitory, existing merely as misconceptions superimposed on the singular truth of existence.
