जलं पङ्कवदत्यन्तं पङ्कापाये जलं स्फुटम् । यथा भाति तथात्मापि दोषाभावे स्फुटप्रभः ॥ २0४ ॥

jalaṁ paṅkavad atyantaṁ paṅkāpāye jalaṁ sphuṭam | yathā bhāti tathātmāpi doṣābhāve sphuṭaprabhaḥ || 204 ||
Translation (अनुवाद)
Just as water becomes clear when the mud subsides, similarly, the self shines brightly in the absence of impurities.

Commentary (टीका)
This sloka draws an analogy between the natural clarity of water once it is freed from mud and the inherent brilliance of the 'ātma' (self) when devoid of 'doṣa' (impurities). The ātman is ever-pure and radiant, yet its true nature is often obscured by impurities, much like mud-clouded water. In 'doṣa-abhāva', or the absence of flaws, the 'ātma' shines with full potential and clarity. This teaching emphasizes the importance of removing spiritual and mental impurities to realize the true nature of the self, a central theme in Vedānta.
