Commentary (टीका)

This sloka emphasizes the perceived eternal bondage of the soul in the cycle of birth and death. Recognizing the struggle within saṁsāra (worldly existence), the seeker questions the revered Guru about the possibility of attaining *mokṣa* (liberation). The quest for liberation amid ongoing saṁsāra contrasts the eternal nature of *jīvabhāva* with the spiritual aspiration for freedom. Here, the role of the *śrīguru* becomes crucial as the seeker turns to the teacher for wisdom and guidance on transcending the cycle of worldly existence. The philosophical inquiry embodies the human quest for liberation from the cycle of life and death.
