Commentary (टीका)
In this sloka, the disciple addresses the concept of individual existence (jīva) arising due to illusion (bhrama). Despite this perception, the sloka emphasizes that this individuality is not the fundamental reality of the parātman or supreme self. The beginninglessness (anāditva) of the adjuncts (upādhis) associated with the supreme self means that the perceived diversity is also without an absolute beginning, thus not subject to true destruction. This reflects the Vedantic view where māyā conceals the true, undivided nature of reality, causing a misperception of duality or multiplicity. The realization of this illusion is key to understanding the essence of non-duality in Vedanta.
