Commentary (टीका)

This verse elucidates the nature of consciousness as it traverses through different states and life forms. The term yoni signifies various life forms, while vijñāna represents the higher awareness or consciousness that persists unchangingly across states such as waking (jāgrat) and dreaming (svapna). The individual neither ascends nor descends, emphasizing a form of continuity or stability within the ephemeral experiences of sukha (happiness) and duḥkha (sorrow). The philosophy indicates that liberation is independent of the dualities of life, prompting an understanding of the transient nature of worldly experiences.
