Translation (अनुवाद)
The Supreme Self does not belong to the mental realm because of its finite nature, being subject to change, inherent sorrowfulness, and object-like attributes; thus, the seer is not perceived as an object.

Commentary (टीका)
This verse argues against equating the Parātmā (Supreme Self) with the mind or mental realm. It points out that the mind has limitations: it has a beginning and an end (ādyantavattva), is subject to change (pariṇāmibhāva), and is inherently sorrowful (duḥkhātmakatva). Additionally, it is like an object in the sense that it can be perceived (viṣayatvahetoḥ). In contrast, the draṣṭā (seer or observer) is not an object and cannot be perceived as such. The verse thus emphasizes the transcendental nature of the Supreme Self, which stands beyond the realms of impermanence and suffering that characterize the mental and sensory experiences.
