Commentary (टीका)
This verse emphasizes the importance of "'viveka'" (discernment) and "'vairāgya'" (dispassion) in the spiritual pursuit of liberation. It suggests that the mind achieves purity exclusively through these qualities, which then serves as a foundation for "'vimukti'" (liberation). For the "'mumukṣu'" (aspirant desiring liberation), cultivating these qualities with firmness and determination is crucial. This underscores the Vedantic view that educational discernment and emotional detachment are pivotal for spiritual growth and ultimate liberation. The process of becoming free is one of inner purification, fostered by knowledge and detachment from worldly desires.
