Commentary (टीका)

This verse underscores the crucial role of the manas (mind) in the spiritual journey of a jantuḥ (being). The mind is the pivotal factor determining both bondage (bandha) and liberation (mokṣa). The impurities of rajoguṇa lead the mind towards attachment and bondage, whereas its purity and freedom from both rajas and tamas guide it towards liberation. Thus, the control and purification of the mind are vital for spiritual emancipation. This highlights the dual nature of the mind and its transformation through the reduction of tamas and rajas, leading to a state of sattva, which is conducive to liberation.
