Commentary (टीका)

This verse elucidates the centrality of the mind in relation to avidyā (ignorance) and bhava-bandha (worldly bondage). It posits that ignorance is synonymous with the mind, as it is the mind that causes attachment to worldly existence. The destruction or cessation of manas results in liberation from this bondage, while its activity gives rise to dualities and attachment. This highlights the significance of controlling and ultimately transcending the mind to achieve mokṣa (liberation). Understanding and overcoming the limitations set by the mind is crucial in Vedantic philosophy for self-realization.
