Commentary (टीका)

This verse encourages the seeker to renounce *ātma-buddhi* (self-identification) with transient and illusory forms. Just as we don’t identify ourselves with temporal entities like a **chāyā-śarīra** (shadow body) or **svapna-deha** (dream body), it's advised to extend this understanding towards the living body as well. The *sloka* essentially instructs us in the art of detachment from the physical *deha*, thus assisting in spiritual awakening and realization of the true self. According to Vedantic philosophy, the true self is beyond physical manifestations. This helps to foster dispassion (vairāgya) and insight into the impermanent nature of the physical world.
