भानुप्रभासंजनिताभ्रपङ्क्तिः भानुं तिरोधाय विजृम्भते यथा । आत्मोदिताहंकृतिरात्मतत्त्वं तथा तिरोधाय विजृम्भते स्वयम् ॥ १४२ ॥

bhānu-prabhā-saṁjanitābhra-paṅktiḥ
bhānuṁ tirobhāya vijṛmbhate yathā
ātmoditā'haṁkṛtir-ātma-tattvaṁ
tathā tirobhāya vijṛmbhate svayam || 142 ||
Translation (अनुवाद)
Just as the row of clouds generated by the sun hides and then reveals the sun, so does the ego, born of the Self, obscure and reveal the nature of the Self itself.

Commentary (टीका)
This verse utilizes a striking metaphor of clouds and the sun to explain the interplay between the ego (ahaṁkāra) and the Self (ātmatattva). Just as clouds, originating from the sun's radiance, can obscure the sun, similarly, the ego, which arises from the Self, can obscure the inherent nature of the Self. However, just as clouds eventually dissipate, revealing the sun, so too can realization dispel the ego, revealing the true nature of the Self. This highlights the illusory nature of the ego and the importance of spiritual insight to perceive the true ātmatattva.
