Commentary (टीका)
This sloka vividly describes the plight of an individual whose understanding is devoured by mahāmoha or great delusion, symbolized by a grāha (crocodile). The mind, weakened in its ability to perceive truth, adopts various misguided behaviors, driven by its own distorted nature. The dynamic imagery of constantly sinking and rising in an ocean filled with viṣaya-viṣa (sensory poison) highlights the spiritual struggle within the unfathomable saṁsāra. In this metaphorical ocean, the kutsita-gati (despicable path) signifies the misguided and unhappy journey of the soul entangled in material illusions. This emphasizes the importance of discerning wisdom and spiritual awakening to escape the perilous cycle of delusion.
