Commentary (टीका)

This verse delves into the concept of *māyā* and *āvṛti*, the veiling power that obscures the true nature of the self. The self or *ātman* is described as eternally undivided (akhaṇḍa), with non-dual consciousness (advaya-bodha) and infinite (ananta) majesty (vaibhava). However, similar to how Rāhu eclipses the sun, this veiling power made of darkness (tamomayī) hides the radiant self. This metaphor highlights the ignorance that prevents individuals from realizing their true spiritual essence. The sloka encourages seekers to recognize and transcend this veiling to experience the full grandeur of the ātman.
