Translation (अनुवाद)

In this body, the thought of 'I' in the non-self is the bondage of this person, arising from ignorance and causing the cycle of birth and death's sufferings. By this, he maintains, nourishes, and protects this body, falsely considering it true like a silkworm weaves its cocoon with threads (of sensory experiences).

Commentary (टीका)

This verse delves into the **concept of bondage** in Vedantic philosophy, arising from the misidentification of the non-self (*anātman*) with the self (*ātman*). The false egoistic thought, "I am this body," fosters an illusory sense of self, producing the cycle of birth and death. This misapprehension originates from *ajñāna* (ignorance) and results in endless suffering. Through the metaphor of a silkworm weaving its cocoon, it illustrates how individuals, entangled in sensory experiences, reinforce this illusion, thus creating their own constraints. Liberation lies in realizing the true nature of the self, distinct from the physical body and its attachments.
