Sloka (श्लोक)

सर्वव्यापृतिकरणं लिङ्गमिदं स्याच्चिदात्मनः पुंसः ।
वास्यादिकमिव तक्ष्णस्तेनैवात्मा भवत्यसङ्गोऽयम् ॥ १०० ॥

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

sarva-vyāpiti-karaṇam liṅgam idaṁ syāc cid-ātmanaḥ puṁsaḥ |
vāsy-ādikam iva takṣṇaḥ tenaiva ātmā bhavati asaṅgaḥ ayam || 100 ||

Translation (अनुवाद)

This indication of pervasive activity belongs to the conscious self of the individual, as the garment belongs to the carpenter; thus, the self remains unattached.

Commentary (टीका)

This verse delves into the nature of the true self, or ātmā. It draws an analogy between the relationship of a carpenter to their tools and attire, and the conscious self to its activities. Just as a carpenter is not inherently attached to their tools, so too the ātmā is unaffected by worldly actions and experiences. The liṅga, or indicator, of pervasive activity (sarva-vyāpiti-karaṇam) is simply an external attribute that does not compromise the inherent detachment (asaṅga) of the self. The śloka emphasizes the Vedantic view of the self as ever-free and beyond the attachments of the external world.
