Section 2 2
The Rarity of Liberation and Its Means
Summary (in English)
The sloka (verse) highlights the rarity of the human birth (nara-janma) and the sequential higher attainments that lead towards true liberation (mokṣa). It underscores that after attaining a human form, the journey should progress through the steps of masculinity, becoming a learned person (vipratā), followed by adherence to Vedic dharma (vaidika-dharma). The essence of spiritual evolution involves discernment between the self and the non-self (ātman-anātma-vivecana), individual realization (sva-anubhava) and abiding in the Self as Brahman. However, this supreme state of liberation is only accessible through accumulated merits amassed over innumerable lifetimes.
