Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the Supreme Lord instructs Arjuna on the importance of being devoted to Him with an unwavering mind. **Swami Sivananda's commentary** emphasizes that true devotion involves taking refuge exclusively in the Lord, with a steadfast mind dedicated to understanding His infinite attributes like omniscience, omnipresence, love, and compassion. To know the Divine entirely, one must practice Yoga with total surrender to Him alone, cutting off attachments to transient worldly pleasures and turning exclusively towards God.

    • Swami Ramsukhdas in Hindi** accentuates that a mind naturally inclined towards God, without any mundane distractions, becomes effortlessly absorbed in divine contemplation. This is achieved through sincere devotional practices, acknowledging God’s omnipresence. He explains that surrendering to God, or śaraṇāgati, involves seeing God as the sole refuge and abandoning worldly dependencies, resulting in the realization of the Divine in His entirety. When one practices sincere devotion and acknowledges the Divine in every aspect of life, the separation from God becomes unbearable, leading to complete absorption in divine knowledge (jnana).

In essence, the core teaching of this sloka is about merging one's consciousness with the Divine through unwavering devotion and the practice of Yoga, leading to the realization of God's full and absolute presence.
