Commentary (टीका)

The sloka elaborates on the practice of Yoga by emphasizing the control and discipline necessary to purify the self. According to the commentaries, achieving one-pointed concentration and disciplining the mind and senses are critical for effective meditation. Swami Sivananda's English commentary highlights that the practice of Yoga should be done regularly and with a focus on self-analysis and mindfulness to succeed in controlling the mind. He warns about the interruptions caused by sensory thoughts and advises persistence in purifying the subconscious mind through meditation.

Swami Ramsukhdas in the Hindi commentary instructs that one should sit in a stable position on the pre-prepared seat as described in the previous verse. Control over the mind and senses to maintain focus on meditation is necessary, and distractions should neither be entertained nor opposed but ignored to achieve concentration. The ultimate goal is purification of the mind, achieved by cultivating divine thoughts and maintaining a purpose aimed solely at realizing God, without desires for worldly gains.

These insights emphasize the importance of sustained practice, discipline, and an unwavering focus on spiritual goals, signifying Yoga as a means to transcend the ordinary state of mind to achieve spiritual purity and enlightenment.
