According to the English commentary by Swami Sivananda, real renunciation involves performing one's duty without expectation, which purifies the mind and facilitates Dhyāna Yoga (Yoga of meditation). The sanyāsī in the traditional sense does not engage in Agnihotra and other rituals, however, merely abstaining from these without internal renunciation does not constitute a true sanyāsī.

The Hindi commentary by Swami Ramsukhdas expands upon the notion of anāśritaḥ, suggesting this detachment must permeate all levels of existence, freeing the individual from worldly attachments (*rāga* - emotional attachment) that propel one into birth and death cycles. Performing actions solely for the benefit of others while remaining unattached to results leads to a tranquil state of being and eventual liberation (mukti).

Therefore, a true yogī operates in this world performing duties as an offering to the world (*lokahitārtha*) without self-motivation or personal gain which results in deep-seated internal renunciation. Both sanyāsī and yogī are synonymous with this practice, not with mere external or ritual renunciation, which only signify superficial asceticism.

This profound teaching stresses the necessity of inner transformation through such detachment (renunciation of claim to fruits) for spiritual progress.
