Sloka (श्लोक)

लभन्ते ब्रह्मनिर्वाणमृषयः क्षीणकल्मषाः।
छिन्नद्वैधा यतात्मानः सर्वभूतहिते रताः।।5.25।।

लभन्ते ब्रह्मनिर्वाणम् ऋषयः क्षीणकल्मषाः छिन्नद्वैधाः यतात्मानः सर्वभूतहिते रताः

Transliteration (लिप्यांतरण)

labhante brahmanirvāṇam ṛṣayaḥ kṣīṇakalmaṣāḥ chinnadvaidhā yatātmānaḥ sarvabhūtahite ratāḥ

Translation (अनुवाद)

The sages (ṛṣayaḥ) who have destroyed (kṣīṇa) all impurities (kalmaṣāḥ), whose doubts (dvaidhā) are torn asunder (chinna), who are self-controlled (yatātmānaḥ), and delight (ratāḥ) in the welfare (hite) of all beings (sarva-bhūta) attain (labhante) the bliss of Brahman (brahmanirvāṇam).

Commentary (टीका)

In this verse, the sloka discusses the attainment of Brahmanirvāṇa (the bliss of Brahman) by sages who have transcended worldly impurities and dualities. These sages, referred to as ṛṣayaḥ, are those whose spiritual impurities (kalmaṣāḥ) which obscure enlightenment are completely destroyed (kṣīṇa), indicating a purified state of existence. The terms chinnadvaidhā signify that their internal dualities and doubts are fully eradicated as they abide in the non-dual understanding.

Furthermore, yatātmānaḥ highlights their self-control which is innate, rendering their mind and senses naturally disciplined. This self-mastery is crucial living with a steady awareness of the Self. Rejoicing in sarva-bhūtahite indicates that these sages engage in the welfare of all beings, recognizing their non-difference from the Self, building a profound connection with all existence.

As per the Hindi commentary by Swami Ramsukhdas, these traits emerge from a steady focus on the knowledge of the non-dual truth, freeing one from the false idea of self-identity with the body-mind complex, hence dissolving the egoistic sense of self completely. The text emphasizes that by realizing one's true nature, the sages seamlessly serve all beings, aligning with the cosmic will, dissolving their individuality like waves merging into the ocean.

In essence, the core theme revolves around the culmination of spiritual practices leading to the liberation (Brahmanirvāṇa), through purification of sins, mastery over senses, resolving inner conflicts, and nurturing a universal love for all beings.
