The joys born of contact with the external world are indeed sources of misery, O Kaunteya (Arjuna); they have a beginning and an end, and the wise do not delight in them.

Commentary (टीका)
The Bhagavad Gita describes the transient nature of worldly pleasures born from contact with sense objects. These pleasures are fleeting, and ultimately give rise to sorrow since they have defined beginnings (ādya) and ends (anta). This intrinsic fleeting nature makes them unreliable for true happiness. The wise, characterized by buddha (wisdom), recognize this transient nature and, therefore, do not indulge or find delight (ramate) in these fleeting pleasures. Instead, they understand the nature of true happiness, which is beyond the temporary allure of sensory enticements. Both Swami Sivananda and Swami Ramsukhdas emphasize detachment from such fleeting pleasures, advocating for focusing on more enduring, spiritual pursuits for true contentment and joy.
